Our Airbnb in Jaibalito, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Our Airbnb in Jaibalito, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Considered sacred by locals, it was built on top of rock formations above an ancient Mayan ceremonial site

This unique Adobe inspired home was designed and developed by the owner, and artist over the past 14 years. It’s tough to hike up (15min by foot), but worth it for the amazing views and privacy when you get there. The house has 360-degree views of majestic surroundings and it’s suitable for a couple, small family or 2-3 friends. There’s a nice bedroom with balcony and an outdoor bathroom upstairs. Downstairs you have a kitchen, fireplace, terrace, and sun deck with a wood-fire hot tub. Outside there’s lots of space for dining, yoga, and meditation.

The house is very secluded and in harmony with nature. It’s surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife, which means harmless insects, spiders and scorpions can be in and around the house, but that’s common for the area. If you want to get work done here, be aware of occasional power outages in town and slow wifi that can be spotty depending on the weather. Noise from church dances, barking dogs, roosters, and tortilla machines can be a nuisance but thats also part of life at the lake. If you’re a light sleeper, bring ear plugs.

Jaibalito is the lake’s best kept secret - the village doesn’t have car access so there’s minimal tourists and the locals are friendly and welcoming. If there is a problem or you need support with your luggage, you can always call Venturo and his posse of niños (photo below). They’re local and happy to help with anything. If you’re looking for privacy and tranquility in nature, unbeatable views, and you don’t mind bugs, we highly recommend this Airbnb.
